Great location to explore this beautiful region – Sarlat is a must! Despite the weather (unseasonably cool & wet for this time of year) we’ve all had a great time. We even managed to enjoy the pool on our warmest days. The outdoor kitchen facilities, including shower and WC by the poolside, are fantastic and great to enjoy BBQ’s ‘plein air’. Market days in this area are always fun to explore and the one in Perigueux was amazing. Gite was large enough to accommodate all seven of us and so lovely to see the deer in the early mornings. Château Puymartin was very interesting and rich in history.

Wonderful spacious, well equipped house with plenty of private nooks should you need some me-time. Alec and Annie are very welcoming and helpful, always on hand should you need them but never intrusive. The separate pool area is very well equipped and provides ample opportunities for lazy poolside days with a fridge and kitchen in easy reach. Loads of board games and pool kit at the house so more space in the car for those souvenirs. We only had a week, definitely would have liked longer but still managed to get to some local sites - the caves were great. An easy run to Bergerac Airport to pick up more of our party. Rouffignac is a pleasant village with a small supermarket and friendly bars to set you up for the walk back.

Thank you Alec & Annie for a great couple of weeks. The pool has been a great hit with the children. We have enjoyed exploring the surrounding countryside as well. Of course we can’t not mention Nina who has been a great hit.

We’ve had two weeks at La Perode as a group 10 (6 adults and 4 young children). It has been a wonderful stay in many ways. The pool / poolhouse / BBQ has been a huge hit! Alec and Annie have been fantastic – always there to help. Very flexible with sleeping arrangements for the children and very keen to answer questions and make our stay as pleasant as possible. Many attractions within a 30 minute drive of the local area which is very useful. Huge thanks to Alec and Annie.

Had a week of scorching heat and thoroughly enjoyed (and needed) the amazing pool area and everything around it! BBQ’s and al fresco dining was perfect. The campsite bar / restaurant was a favourite as most other places were closed – good menu and cocktails. Perigueux was also lovely & well worth the visit. Thanks to Alec and Annie and gorgeous Nina for making us feel so welcome and for being on hand should we need anything.

The four weeks has gone so fast and we are not ready to leave! La Perode is so peaceful, with woods and paths behind the house. One of our daughters found a summer truffle , which must have been dropped by a passing boar! The garden was perfect for our dog, who would wander off to visit Nina but couldn’t get into the fields. The pool area with it’s superb kitchen is wonderful and was only under-used because of the weather. The round table outside the kitchen in the house suited us also when our baby grandson was in bed. We always cooked at night so the big cooker / oven was great. The two main bedrooms are particularly lovely, and the space and table in Troglodyte was helpful for necessary office work. We loved being able to walk into the garden. Also appreciated a clear guide to the property, lots of info’ about the area and a CD player! The house is within easy distance of so many lovely villages, towns and caves. Good markets and nice cafe’s. We especially enjoyed Sarlat, Montignac, Terrasson and Belves. We also loved Rouffignac village, easily walkable, lovely friendly boulangerie (Blondy) restaurant (La Renaissance) with great pizza’s and friendly owners, and a good Sunday morning market. The pop-up Sunday cafe on the market corner is fun – pay what you think it’s worth, mostly vegan. Also sells jewellery. Alec and Annie are on hand for advice, and were so friendly, but went out of their way to give us privacy. Nina is gorgeous and a frequent visitor, we’re pleased to say.
