We were fortunate enough to spend a whole month at the delightful ‘La Perode’ and it is difficult knowing where to start. Firstly, Alec & Annie were the perfect hosts - always there when needed and able to give wonderful advice on where to eat or take a boat trip - even down to providing the right implements to retrieve a lost ring from a plughole. The countryside must be amongst the very best in the world! The route from Plazac to Fanlac (one restaurant only but worth a visit), Rocamadour, Sarlat (walk in the back streets), Gouffre de Padirac (longish trip beyond Sarlat); local caves here are good and go on the river Dordogne. Eat at St Leon sur Vezere and walk around the village. Roque St Christophe is good as is the local Chateau L’Herm. Hautfort is a good day, see the chateau, have lunch and the local museum of medicine - use the tourist route to approach the chateau. Try Castelnaud - again views are wonderful and chateau of great interest. Market day in Sarlat is Wednesday - we ate at ‘Le Tourny’ in middle of town. 4 courses €15 euros lunchtime. Unbelievable. And not all duck (it is hard to avoid duck / foie gras in this area). Also try L’Auberge du Pont in St Leon sur Vezere at lunchtime 3 courses €16.80 lovely village and eat outside but save the coffee. Instead walk to the church & river and there is a delightful riverside cafe - perfect for your after lunch cafe. Rouffignac is great - has all you need. Cafe de Paris for a coffee or beer with the locals and ‘Blondys’ boulangerie is excellent. Tried all their cakes and they are fab, as are the quiches and obviously the bread & croissants. The boucherie is also excellent and Carrefour has all the basics and some good wine. The swimming pool area is wonderful and we enjoyed many memorable BBQ’s. This was a wonderful holiday offering everything from great walks to spectacular chateaux /cycling / restaurants and all in a laid back French way! Many thanks for a marvellous holiday.

We spent a week at La Perode as a party of 9: 4 adults and 5 children. The gite itself had everything we needed and plenty of space. The pool area is fabulous: we spent much of our time there and ate most of our meals by the pool as the outdoor kitchen is so well equipped. Good weather and lovely surroundings meant we didn’t venture out as much as we possibly should have done but highlights included canoeing at Limeuil, caves at Lascaux and the water park at Le Bugue. Would love to visit again.

What can we say. Only here for a week, needed a month. The whole holiday was superb. Kids are now shrivelled up from the pool.
Thanks, it was fantastic - will recommend to everyone.

We had a great week here with three generations of our family. The weather has been very mixed with a fantastic storm one night and some very hot days. Highlights of our week were a Thursday evening trip to Chateau du Marqueyssac for the candlelight evening with music. The saxophonists, jazz singer, strings and piano player are all excellent and contribute to a magical evening. Can also recommend the ice creams there. Boat trip on a gabarre from Baynac - fun and informative. Running to the village for pain-au-raisin (young members of the group) of approx. 10 minutes. There is so much to do in the area we only just touched upon it. The rest of the time we spent enjoying this wonderfully peaceful haven. Thank you for a wonderful week.

We had a great two weeks here. The house easily accommodated our two families and had everything we needed. The pool area was great and very well equipped, and was a great size for us all. A couple of highlights were Rouffignac night market and canoeing on the Dordogne but the whole area is beautiful with lots of things to do.

Only had one week here .. definitely not enough!! We were just getting relaxed and in tune with the local rhythm when it was time to go. We can only echo the comments of other guests - Alec & Annie were very welcoming and helped us out with some early snags (lost luggage and hire car problems). Nothing was too much trouble yet they knew when to offer advice and when to let us get on with things ourselves. The house itself is fantastic; it has everything you could need and more. The pool area was a huge hit with the big kids and not so big kids alike, particularly when the thermometer was touching 40DegC. It was only possible to scratch the surface regarding local attractions but Rouffignac caves are worth a visit, canoeing at Les Eyzies - fantastic experience but try to pick a cool day - wine tasting and a balloon flight, although didn’t quite manage the latter as the weather was too windy. We will definitely came again - for the house, the pool, the area and the hospitality of Alec & Annie.

Enjoyed a week at La Perode with family. The property has been sympathetically restored to a high standard. It has everything you could need for a relaxing holiday, from spacious bedrooms and living accommodation, fantastic pool and outdoor eating areas. In truth you would not need to go anywhere except to get the bread and provisions from the village. However, the local area is also full of interesting things to do and see. The owners are also really friendly and helpful. All in all A1 holiday.

Two weeks were not enough to do all we wanted as there is so much to see and do in this area. We particularly enjoyed canoeing & horse riding and our favourite places were Sarlat, Perigueux, La Roche Gageac, St Leon sur Vezere and Beynac. The old town in Montignac is a hidden gem also. Thanks to Alec & Annie for their hospitality and all the best in the future.

What can we say about your lovely cottage - it is fantastic, everything you need plus more. The pool was fantastic especially as the weather was so hot during our stay (40°C most days). We spent most of our time there using all the facilities. As for the pair of you, from booking until arrival you kept us informed and up to date. While here you helped with any information we needed and we loved seeing your new project. We wish you all the best in the future and would love to see you again in the coming years. Thanks for making and allowing us to have a great holiday.

We had a delightful time. Alec & Annie were welcoming and helpful; they went out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. We spent a great deal of time in the pool - the pool area is great, well equipped and set in a wonderful location. We recommend visiting the caves and horse riding.

We were a family party of 8. We all slept comfortably with a bedroom to spare. The house was clean and tidy and well equipped. Everything was in good working order and we had the luxury of talking to the owners, who live close by, if we had any queries. We spent most of our time by the high standard swimming pool where all facilities were to hand. Fridge, barbecue, toilet, sink, table tennis , table & chairs, sun beds, inflatable’s etc. Clearly the owners had thought of everything.
I bought several decent table tennis bats before the holiday but I wasted my money because the bats there were better than mine! We spent hours in the pool and consumed a beer or two to cool off. Some of the family went horse riding and to the prehistoric caves. There is a very decent restaurant only 10 minutes walk from the house which we frequented as the food was excellent and good value. We had a pleasant morning at Rouffignac market which is about 7 minutes drive, although a few of us walked. We visited a few towns and villages in the area but sadly ran out of time to see everything we wanted. On reflection, 1 week was no long enough. The owners, Alec & Annie. went out of their way to help us and we had a delightful and stress free holiday at La Perode. (OwnersDirect copy)

We have had a fantastic time at La Perode - a beautiful and peaceful place. We were a family of eight - three pensioners, 2 children and 3 adults and La Perode accommodated us very comfortably. The house had everything we wanted and once the weather warmed up we spent most of our time by the pool, playing table tennis whilst the adults enjoyed a drink in the evenings. We would recommend the markets in Le Bugue and Rouffignac - the poulet tastes amazing. Sarlat is beautiful but try visiting other than market day as you will be able to see how great it really is. Also took a trip to St Emillion and were overwhelmed with the amount of vinyards - try visiting them rather than buying the wine in the shops as it is cheaper. Montignac is also very beautiful and canoeing is highly recommended - we used Canoë Eric in Le Bugue and it was an amazing experience. Our last day Alec and Annie invited us to their house for an aperitif and then joined us for dinner, which was lovely. I highly recommend La Perode and Alec & Annie are lovely hosts.
