Domain of La Perode

The overall domain of La Perode comprises three detached buildings and a separate pool area, with around three quarters of the land given over to natural wildflower pasture that is annually cropped for hay by a local farmer. Unspoilt oak and mixed forest comprises the remainder, housing much wildlife and serving our table with the occasional batch of mushrooms.

The first building to be developed – the old Bread House (Maison du Pain) – took several years to complete and became available for holiday vacations during summer 2013. This is the (only) property that is enjoyed by our many guests, along with the large (250m²) enclosed swimming pool recreation area that is for your own private use.

The gated and secure pool area offers a large (12m x 6m) heated swimming pool with lots of space to relax in either sun or shade. There is a substantial summer kitchen with a top-of-the-range Weber gas BBQ, fridge and washing facilities which will allow you to spend most of your time there to relax with family and friends. The whole complex is yours to enjoy and is for the exclusive use of our the Farmhouse (Bread House) guests.

As a separate building, the Bergerie rebuild was also finished in 2013 whilst the internal refurbishment was finally completed in 2018. This is where you will find the resident hosts Alec & Annie although we are comfortably separated from the Bread House farmhouse and pool area and try to be as unobtrusive as possible. That said, we remain on hand to sort out any problems or answer any questions that may arise.

Finally, the spectacular (and rather large) 100m2 barn development was completed in 2022, having been re-roofed, extended and pointed, along with many internal additions and improvements. It is now a pottery, workshop and recreational area (to keep the owners occupied now that the other major projects have been completed) with a large fruit and vegetable garden beyond, complete with sheds and greenhouses. Upper and lower outside barn terraces complete the facilities and secure fencing fully encloses the area to keep the wildlife out and the domestic stuff in...

This has since provided us with an organic potager (vegetable & fruit garden) by way of several raised beds and intermittently complemented with bees, chickens and various fruit and other plantings, from which we make occasional offerings to our guests according to season.

All are located at the end of a 300m private road that issues into the large site car park, the whole domain thereby offering a child-friendly, quiet and peaceful location.

As you enter you will notice the rubble wall that surrounds this car park - estimated to be at least 50 tons of limestone - which is the twelve year accumulated outcome of the building work and is colloquially known as 'Annie's wall'...
